Poipu Kai Association Tennis Tournaments Raise Money for KUW »»
Carolyn Caylor, Krystyna and Herb Noe were proud to present a check for more than $5000 to Kauai United Way representatives Campaign Co-Chair Doug Sears and staff Scott Giarman and Lynnette Medrano-Stine at a recent ceremony.
“Corporate giving has been trending down,” said Campaign Co-Chair Doug Sears, “so we have had to rely on more people to give a little more and special events like this one provide a way to do even more than that. We’re so grateful that these folks have been willing to go the extra mile to benefit our community once again. We need to support them the best we can.” About 2/3 of money raised by Kauai United Way comes from regular working people giving a few dollars a paycheck, and all of it goes to social service programs here on Kauai. “Payroll deduction makes workplace giving easy,” said executive director Scott Giarman, “but people getting creative with these special events seems to be catching on because it’s fun and it gives people a great feeling to know that they are doing their parts to keep social services robust and available to those in need on our island.” Carolyn and Krystyna have already started brainstorming ways to make next year’s tournaments even more lucrative for Kauai social services. “Tournaments like this, giving to help our community – it really matters,” said Campaign Co-Chair Ron Wiley. “You or your family could need these services anytime. Meanwhile, every time a Kauai person who needs help and able to find it, we are all better off.
