Barbara Nagamine - 2009 Founders Award Winner »»

Kauai United Way was founded in 1943 by a small group of visionary community leaders ? Elsie and Mabel Wilcox, A. Hebard Case, Lindsay Faye, Andrew Gross and Bernard D. Pratt ? determined to ?transmit the community not less but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.?

Kathy Miyake, Board Vice-President, Barbara Nagamine, 2009 Kauai United Way Founders award winner and Scott Giarman, Executive Director

Kauai United Way honors these noble sentiments with the annual Founders? Award, as voted anonymously by the Board of Directors. It goes to the Board member who best exemplifies the spirit of the Founders. This year?s award goes to Barbara Nagamine, of KIUC.

Single handedly, Barbara brought the previously obscure Agency Relations Committee to the new prominence it enjoys today as a generator of key input to the Allocations Committee. Today, each Board member is expected to visit at least one Participating Agency and issue a formal report on what they find under the direction of the Agency Relations Committee. This, in conjunction with staff visits and agency representation at the Allocations hearings themselves, gives the Allocations Committee a tremendously deep body of information on which to draw as allocations decisions are made.

Congratulations, Barbara!
