The employees of Ace Hardware / Ben Franklin Stores were sure that the Kaua`i United Way Annual Campaign would struggle in this time of economic crisis and they wanted to do something about it. So they wrote a book ? a cook book, of actual recipes by the employees themselves! They had it printed and have sold them for $10 each with all the proceeds to benefit the critical social service work of Kaua`i United Way. So far, they have raised over $6,000!
With the help of this fundraiser and numerous others in addition to the generosity of a few generous corporate citizens and thousands of working people who pledged a few bucks a paycheck, Kaua`i United Way has pushed to close to 90% of its goal, a remarkable accomplishment. This goal was actually raised in anticipation of increased need on our island, but with so many former payroll-deduction donors out of work it looks like KUW will fall a little short this year after more than a decade of achieving increased goals.
Mahalo to the management and staff of Ace Hardware / Ben Franklin for going the extra mile to support those in need in our community.
